Canada is a diverse country that comprises
people from every culture and background imaginable.
You can imagine the sheer number of different styles
of martial arts available to study!
There are many different organizations in Canada that
cover areas like traditional Karate, Kickboxing, Tae
Kwon Do, Kung fu, and other styles. As such,
there is no single governing body for all Martial
Arts in Canada.
What this means is that there is no standard to which
all martial arts schools are held. It also means
that styles stay segregated as to competitions and
experiencing different styles.
The Sport Kickboxing
Federation (SKF) has established standards for
martial arts schools, marketing, instructor certification
programs, and competitions all across the world.
The Sport Kickboxing combines the best of the old
with the best of the new, constantly working towards
martial arts excellence. The SKF has developed
a comprehensive system that works with every style,
from Kickboxing, to Karate, and to Kung-fu.

There
are some other organizations such as the SKF
that hold tournaments for both member clubs
only, and that hold open tournaments for all
styles. The goal of open tournaments
is to promote communication between different
styles and to offer martial artists a venue
for testing their skills against members of
other styles in a safe and encouraging environment. |
Some SKF Schools
There are some associations that promote karate, such
as the World
Karate Federation (WKF). In Canada
the governing body for Karate is the National
Karate Association (NKA), which is a branch of
the WKF. Each province also has a governing
body for Karate under the auspices of the NKA; in
British Columbia the governing Body is Karate
BC. These organizations promote karate tournaments
for member clubs only as well as offer Instructor,
Referee and Judge training courses to members of their
association.

Tae Kwon Do is split into two governing bodies,
the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF) and
the International Tae Kwon Do Federation (ITF).
Both organizations sanction Tae Kwon Do tournaments
under their own rules. Each federation
only allows member clubs to participate in
their tournaments. |

The National
Black Belt League (NBL) is an organization
designed for the promotion of Sport Karate
tournaments throughout the United States and
Southern Canada. The NBL holds a series
of open tournaments throughout the year in
association with Sport Karate International
(SKI). |
