Q. Mr. Shamrock, how do you feel about your recent 5th UFC Championship
victory over Tito Ortiz?
A. I'm very satisfied with both my performance and the outcome.
Q. What do you feel was your greatest advantage over Tito
in your strategy to secure a victory?
A. Definitely my cardiovascular conditioning. No one is better
conditioned. I not only do hard cardio, but I do anaerobic
sprint drills and plyometric training.
I knew the key to beating Tito was primarily in the conditioning.
Although there were opportunities to submit, I knew he would
be expecting that so my strategoy was to wear him out, let
him work on top, conserve my energy, steadily deliver strikes
and leg kicks to chop him down, then unleash my fury when
he was gassing hard and beat him down.
Q. It appeared you were communicating wit hTito when you
two were on the ground beginning in the 2nd round. What were
you telling him?
A. I told him, "You're getting tired, Tito. I hear you
breathing harder. It's coming. It's coming. Soon as I get
out I'm gonna stand you up and knock you out."
I challenged his haert and made him doubt himself. Like I
said in the pre-fight, "I break men, that's what I do.
I break bones & I break spirits. This is my world, and
when you step into my world, you're gonna walk out a loser,
I guarantee it."
